Merchant of record

The company that appears on the buyer's card statement and is liable for the sale, refunds, and often sales tax.

Definition

A merchant of record (MoR) is the legal seller of the transaction. Platforms like Paddle or Lemon Squeezy can act as MoR so the seller does not collect VAT themselves. The tradeoff is less control over checkout branding and a higher all-in fee.

How it works in Quickshops

Quickshops is not an MoR. Checkout runs on Stripe Connect in the seller's account. You stay seller of record and keep Stripe payout history.
